CSR/Environmentally responsible manufacturing For Bovince, environmentally responsible manufacturing and corporate social responsibility (CSR) are fundamental to the company’s strategic goals. CSR is a bottom line issue and the company has not only made significant savings by reducing waste and emissions, they have also improved their competitiveness and reputation, and reduced their exposure to risk.

Environmental reporting began in 1995, when company gained the BS 7750 environmental standard. In the following year it was accredited under the European Eco-Management and Auditing System (EMAS), and in January 1997 Bovince was awarded ISO 14001 certification. Since 2000 the Company has broadened its EMAS reporting mechanism by including Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility aspects.
Strategy, Planning and Communication Communication of printing aspects is also seen as a key strategy. An example of this in practice was a print education project with other stakeholders to produce a series of ‘Big Books’ to bring the print sector to life through the national curriculum.
A central theme in Bovince's strategy is what the company terms the 'Bovince Tree of Sustainability'. This has nine 'branches', each representing a particular aspect of the company's commitment to sustainable development. They are waste, emissions, effluent, and energy reduction, cyclic ways, transport impacts, people and learning, business and society, and sustainable growth. These nine categories provide the basis for measuring sustainability within the company. Bovince firmly believes that sustainability can go hand-in-hand with improved commercial performance - the well known 'triple bottom line' of environmental protection, social responsibility and financial prosperity.
